Converting .vob files to .wmv for Editing Purposes
Monday, January 12th, 2009Quite often when our customers hire a DVD camcorder from us they need to be able to edit the footage using software such as Windows Movie Maker. Sounds straight forward? Well unfortunately its not, although it is possible it does require a bit of time and know how. When you record straight onto a mini DVD disc the footage is saved as a .vob file. This means you will be able to play the film back either on your laptop or conventional DVD player. Frustratingly though, it is not possible to edit your movie with the file in this format. WIndows Movie Maker for example will not allow you to upload your movie for editing purposes as it does not recognise .vob files. The file needs to be converted to a supported file type such as a .wmv file.
Converting VOB to WMV
By typing the search phrase “convert .vob to .wmv” into Google you will see plenty of downloads that claim to solve this problem. After having tried most of the free downloads we discovered either it will only convert a percentage of your footage or it will leave a watermark on the end film. However, we have found this website which seems to do the trick Super© and also is available as a free download. You simply download the software to your laptop or PC then you are able to convert your VOB files to WMV simply. Once your file has been converted you can now upload the file to Windows Movie Maker ready for editing.
